Support Us

It’s not always easy being a trans or non-binary person in the Estrie region. Access to health care, the lack of inclusion in many institutions and having to fight daily for recognition of one’s identity are just some of the issues we face. Through the services and support offered by TransEstrie, we aim to improve the living conditions of all trans and non-binary people in the Estrie region.

Since 2017, we have distributed hundreds of gender-affirming items and held hundreds of discussion group meetings for trans and non-binary people, young and old, as well as their loved ones. We’ve also offered one-on-one interventions, set up a micro-library to lend out books, provided training in various settings, distributed bus passes to get people to our services, and much more. Every year, hundreds of people aged 7 to 77 come to us for essential services.

From its inception, TransEstrie, now a registered charitable organization, has stood out throughout the province, not only for the quality of its work, but also for the quality of the content it produces, from training content to online resources. Its transition guides (legal and medical) are used throughout the province as the number-one reference to help trans people and practitioners understand the transition process. In addition, the organization’s advocacy work with the Quebec government has led to an exemption from administrative fees for legal sex designation changes with the Directeur de l’état civil for first-time applicants.

Like many 2SLGBTQIA+ organizations, TransEstrie receives very little recurrent funding to enable it to fulfill its mission. Although we receive funding that enables us to set up innovative and community-building projects, these one-time funds do not allow us to ensure the sustainability of the services developed during these projects. We’re proud of the living environment and services we offer in our downtown Sherbrooke facilities! But we need your help to maintain them!

TransEstrie is a registered charitable organization, so any donation of $20 or more will be issued a tax receipt.

No donation is too small!

Here’s how every donation helps us accomplish our mission:

$7.50 allows us to pay for a round-trip bus ticket to help a young person attend one of our discussion group meetings;

$20 allows us to offer a packer or gaff to a trans or non-binary person who can’t afford one themselves;

$45 allows us to offer a binder to a trans or non-binary person who can’t afford one themselves;

$75 enables us to run a demystification workshop in a primary or secondary school class;

$100 allows us to accompany a young person to a medical appointment;

$150 enables us to hold a discussion group for trans and non-binary people to encourage mutual support;

$250 enables us to hold a drop-in period to provide rapid access to on-site support workers, or simply to bring trans and non-binary people together and develop a sense of community;

$500 allows us to hold a legal gender and name change clinic to help trans and non-binary people fill out legal forms.

Help us better support the people in our communities!
