Am I The Problem?

Identifying potentially abusive behavior in romantic and sexual relationships: a guide for young trans, non-binary and questioning people.

This guide serves as a reflection tool for young trans and non-binary or questioning (TNBQ) people to help recognize potentially abusive behaviour in their romantic, and sexual relationships.

Genderqueer relationships often have differences compared to cisgender, heterosexual relationships, so the types of abuse and how they manifest often differ as well.

There is a shocking lack of research on TNBQ people, especially queer youth. Because of this, there are few inclusive resources that highlight trans-specific intimate partner violence (T-IPV) and young queer people are more at risk to be subject to, or contribute to, an abusive situation.

This guide includes descriptions of these different presentations of abuse, as well as positive queer relationship models that demonstrate what a supportive, affirming, and equitable relationship looks like.

This project is funded by the Secrétariat à la condition féminine du Québec.
